Enforcement Directorate officials have raided the residence of Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail from Karwar constituency in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. More than 24 ED officials have inspected the documents at the house.

MLA Satish Sail and his family members are in Bengaluru as the assembly session is underway.

MLA Sail, who had previously served a prison sentence in an illegal iron ore smuggling case, was convicted in a case of illegal ore smuggling from Belekeri port to other countries through Mallikarjuna Shipping Company.

Based on a complaint filed by a team led by retired Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, the Special Court of People's Representatives had sentenced Satish Sail to 7 years in prison with a fine of ₹44 crore last October.

However, Sail had filed an appeal in the High Court challenging the order of the Court of Representatives. The court, which examined the appeal, suspended the sentence and granted bail, instructing him to deposit 25% of the fine amount.
