Historical Significance: After nearly 200 years of British colonial rule, India achieved independence at midnight between 14 and 15 August 1947.
Role of Freedom Fighters: Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and countless others played vital roles in the struggle.
First Prime Minister’s Speech: On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru delivered the famous Tryst with Destiny speech.
National Flag Hoisting: The Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour at the Red Fort in Delhi, followed by the national anthem and a ceremonial parade.
State & Local Celebrations: Across India, schools, offices, and communities hold flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and patriotic songs.
