Kolkata, 12 August (H.S.) Thousands of headmasters and headmistresses from government and government-aided high schools and high madrasas across the state joined the “Vikas Bhavan Chalo” campaign in Kolkata on Tuesday under the banner of Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses.

The main demands of Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses included safety at the workplace, transparent recruitment to vacant posts, freedom from non-academic work, payment of outstanding salaries, dearness allowance at the central rate according to AICPI, inclusion in the health scheme, the education department bearing the entire expenses of the school, regular elections in education boards, appointment of education enthusiasts in management committees, abolition of penalty on minor mistakes in registration and exemption from BLO duty.

After the sit-in and demonstration, a five-member delegation submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister's office and senior officials of the education department. The organization's state general secretary Chandan Maiti said that the senior officials of the education department have agreed to most of the demands and assured a quick solution.
