TMC leader shot dead in Bankura


Bankura, 12 August (H.S.) A 42-year-old Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead in Sonamukhi police station area of Bankura district on Monday night. Tension has spread in the entire area following the incident and heavy police force has been deployed.

The deceased has been identified as Sekander Khan alias Sayan Khan, booth convener of Chokai Gram Panchayat. According to the police, Sekander Khan was returning home on a bike at night. Unknown assailants opened fire on him near Siccha drain area of Chokai village. The TMC leader received three bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and raids are going on in search of the accused.

Primarily it is suspected that there are political reasons behind the murder. The TMC alleged that this attack is the result of a conspiracy by opposition parties. At the same time, the BJP has denied any involvement in this matter. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

According to police sources, in view of the tension in the area, additional forces have been deployed and vigilance has been increased to deal with any untoward incident.
