Kolkata, 12 August (H.S.) — The Kolkata Police on Tuesday claimed that no evidence has so far been found to support allegations that the mother of the RG Kar case victim was assaulted by police personnel during the Nabanna march on August 9. Addressing the media, Joint CP (Headquarters) Miraz Khalid said that the police possess multiple videos of the incident, but none show the woman being thrown to the ground or beaten.

The victim’s father has alleged that near the Kid Street–Jawaharlal Nehru Road crossing, police struck his wife’s hand, breaking her shankha (conch shell bangle), and then hit her on the head and back with a baton. He claimed the attack was premeditated and could have been fatal. He further alleged that he had to visit multiple police stations — being redirected from Shakespeare Sarani to Park Street and then to New Market — before his complaint was accepted.

Eventually, he emailed Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma and other senior officers. On Tuesday, the Commissioner responded, confirming that a complaint had been registered at New Market Police Station and that legal action would be taken following an investigation.

Miraz Khalid reiterated this and appealed to anyone with videos or photographs of the incident to share them with the police. He also claimed that the Nabanna march on August 9 was conducted without police permission. According to him, around 400–500 people had gathered at Dorina Crossing and began moving towards Park Street, where some participants allegedly misbehaved with and assaulted police personnel — videos of which were shown to reporters.

So far, six cases have been registered in connection with the incident. NoticesNoticesk have been issued to six individuals after video verification — Sajal Ghosh, Tamoghno Ghosh, Ashok Dinda, Bhola Sarkar, Kushal Pandey, and Kamaljeet Singh. However, no arrests have been made yet.
