Hooghly, 12 August (H.S.): Senior Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has clarified in his social media post on Tuesday why he was absent from the protest in front of the Election Commission. Along with the post, the Trinamool MP has also shared a picture in which he is seen next to Prime Minister Modi.
Kalyan Banerjee said that he has been a member of the Parliamentary Housing Committee since 2014. To overcome the shortage of housing for the newly elected MPs, 184 flats were built under his supervision on Baba Kharag Singh Marg. He said that this was not a small task, but the committee completed it.
Kalyan Banerjee further said that at 10 am on Monday, the Prime Minister inaugurated this housing complex and by 10:30 am he left for the Supreme Court, where two important cases were being heard on his party's challenge to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and OBC issues.
He said that this is the reason why he could not join the party's protest in front of the Election Commission. Kalyan Banerjee wrote that he does not need to give an explanation to anyone for his absence, but some people always look for an opportunity to attack him. He taunted that despite all the conspiracies in the last election, he won by one lakh 75 thousand votes.
The MP reiterated in his post that his strong loyalty and honesty cannot be questioned and his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee is unquestionable and will remain so.
