Cachar (Assam), 12 August (HS):
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the state police for a major success in the fight against drug trafficking. The CM said that Assam Police has been relentlessly working to break the chains of the narcotics trade and in a significant breakthrough, Cachar Police intercepted two vehicles in the Dholai area and seized 464 grams of heroin.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹2.5 crore in the international market. Two peddlers were arrested on the spot. According to police, the heroin was part of an organised trafficking network and was being transported through Dholai to other regions.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The Chief Minister congratulated Cachar Police for the operation and reiterated the government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against drugs to make Assam drug-free.
