New Delhi, August 1(HS): The Saket Court in Delhi has summoned the notary who certified BJP spokesperson Suresh Karmshi Nakhua's documents related to a defamation petition against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. District Judge Gunjan Gupta has scheduled the notary's appearance for August 8.
During the hearing, Rathee's Advocate, Satvik Verma, argued that Nakhua's documents are fraudulent, highlighting that Nakhua's affidavit was certified on January 26, coinciding with Republic Day. Verma pointed out the absence of a certification date on the documents and requested the notary's appearance to clarify the authenticity.
In response, Rathee alleged that Nakhua had hidden facts and used abusive language in his communications. Rathee's Advocate, Nakul Gandhi, referenced Nakhua's derogatory tweets towards several public figures, including Sonia Gandhi and Barkha Dutt. Rathee also alleged that Nakhua's petition misrepresented facts in a video that allegedly contained vulgar content.
On July 24, the court sent notices to Rathee, Google, and X (formerly Twitter). Nakhua's lawyers claimed that Rathee's video, My Reply to Godi YouTubers, contained insulting remarks against him, branding Rathee as a violent troll. Nakhua seeks 2 million in damages, asserting that Rathee's statements have severely damaged his reputation and requesting a ban on further postings by Rathee on Twitter.
