Nagpur, 01 Aug
(HS): A retired ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad) officer, Mehboob Mujawar, made a stunning
revelation in Solapur that he was directed to arrest Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat in connection with the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast.
Mujawar’s allegations came after the acquittal of all seven accused in the case by
a Special NIA Court.
Six people died,
and about 100 people were injured in a Muslim dominated area in Malegaon during
Ramadan. Initially, the case was investigated by ATS led by Hemant Karkare and
later transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011. Mujawar
was a part of the original ATS team claimed he was given a ‘confidential order’
to arrest Dr Bhagwat along with suspects Ram Kalsangra, Sandeep Dange, and
Dilip Patidar, to push a false narrative of Hindu terrorism. Mujawar refused to
comply. He alleged that the refusal led to a false case against him. He said
that the label of ‘Safron terror' is fake.
The NIA Court verdict
has reignited debates, and the victims’ families are planning to appeal against
it.
