Bangalore, 01 August (H.S.) : In connection with the kidnapping and rape case of a woman from KR Nagar in Mysuru district, Prajwal Revanna, former JDS MP and grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, has been found guilty by Judge Santosh Gajanana Bhat of the Bangalore Special Court of People's Representatives, and the sentence will be announced tomorrow.
The hearing in the case concluded on 29 July 29, and the court adjourned the verdict to 01 August.
After the verdict was announced, Prajwal Revanna was seen walking out of the courtroom in tears.
The court has not yet announced the sentence to be imposed on Prajwal Revanna. However, according to the law, a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment is likely.
During the hearing on the dispute over evidence, the court had sought clarification on the location information on Google Maps and the seized mobile phone.
Accordingly, the prosecution had submitted 2021 photos with descriptions of Google Maps locations for record, but Prajwal's lawyer had claimed that these evidences were not relevant to the case.
Background of the case
A series of rape cases have been registered against Prajwal Revanna, the main case against him being the kidnapping and rape of a woman from KR Nagar, Mysore.
As per the allegations, the woman was kidnapped and kept in a farmhouse near Hunsur. There are a total of 9 accused in this case, out of which Prajwal's father, former minister H.D. Revanna, and mother, Bhavani Revanna, have already been granted bail.
Prajwal Revanna was arrested on 31 May, 2024, and has been in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Jail since then. The case has had a profound impact on his political future and has come as a shock to the Deve Gowda family.
