Delhi, 1 August (H.S.): Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh became the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on Thursday, having previously served as Director General Operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at Army Headquarters. Commissioned into the 4th Battalion, The Parachute regiment (Special Forces) in December 1987, he is an alumnus of La’ Martiniere College, Lucknow University, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
His career, spanning 38 years, includes significant roles in various Operations such as ‘OP PAWAN’, ‘OP MEGHDOOT’, and ‘OP ORCHID’. He commanded a Special Forces Unit in Kashmir and later led an Infantry Brigade and Mountain Division in ‘OP SNOW LEOPARD’.
As GOC of a Corps in Himachal Pradesh, he oversaw sensitive areas including Jammu and Pathankot. With extensive educational credentials, including a Master in Management Studies and a Masters in Philosophy, he has received the Ati Vishist Seva Medal and Bar to Sena Medal for his distinguished service.
