Washington, July 9(HS): The US Supreme Court has granted President Donald Trump the authority to proceed with his plan to cut the federal workforce and eliminate federal agencies by overturning a lower court's decision. This ruling eliminates a major legal barrier, paving the way for significant layoffs of federal employees across various departments, including Housing and Urban Development, State, and Treasury.

Reports indicate that, although the Supreme Court's order is temporary, it allows Trump to execute his agenda. Previously, a federal judge had blocked the White House's job reduction plan. In response, the Justice Department had sought relief from the Supreme Court. Earlier this year, Trump issued an executive order for substantial staff reductions, leading to increased actions by the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Budget Management.

Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the decision, asserting it protects Trump's authority over federal employees.Conversely, labor unions and nonprofit organizations condemned the ruling, arguing it undermines democracy and threatens essential services, labeling the mass firing of federal employees without Congressional approval as unconstitutional.
