Kolkata, July 9 (H.S.):
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, July 10. The meeting is likely to take place at the state secretariat, Nabanna, according to a senior official in the Bengal administration.
While the visit is officially being described as a courtesy call, there is speculation that the two leaders may also discuss a possible joint strategy among opposition parties ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
“This will be a courtesy meeting between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” the official said, adding that Abdullah is scheduled to visit Nabanna on Thursday.
This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since the April terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and sent shockwaves across the country.
Political observers believe the meeting could hold significance in light of efforts to build greater coordination among opposition parties before the crucial parliamentary session. The possibility of renewed dialogue on a united front and coordinated floor strategy may figure prominently in the discussion.
