New Delhi, July 9 (HS): Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced a significant meeting on cotton production set for July 11 in Coimbatore. He emphasized the low productivity levels of cotton in India, which have recently declined further due to the TSV virus affecting BT cotton, causing distress among farmers. The objective is to enhance cotton production while lowering input costs by developing climate-resilient, high-quality seeds.

The upcoming meeting will involve cotton-growing farmers, farmer organizations, scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), agriculture ministers from cotton-producing states, state officials, cotton industry representatives, and agricultural university experts. The Minister urged farmers to share their suggestions by calling the toll-free number 18001801551, promising to consider all input seriously to create a comprehensive roadmap for improving cotton production in the country..
