Hindustan Shipyard Limited(HSL) delivers first Indigenous Diving Support Vessel ‘Nistar’ to Indian Navy

Delhi, 9 July (H.S.): 'Nistar', India’s first indigenously designed Diving Support Vessel, was delivered by Hindustan Shipyard Limited to the Indian Navy on 08 July 2025 in Visakhapatnam. Designed to IRS classification standards, it specializes in deep-sea diving and rescue operations, a capability found in select global navies. The 118 m vessel, with nearly 10,000 tons of tonnage, features advanced diving equipment capable of deep-sea saturation diving up to 300 m and has a side diving stage for operations up to 75 m.

'Nistar' also acts as the ‘mother ship’ for potential submarine emergencies, equipped with remotely operated vehicles for diver monitoring and salvage up to 1,000 m depth. With approximately 75% indigenous content, its delivery marks a significant achievement for the Indian Navy and supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
