Birmingham, July 6 (HS): On the fourth day of the Edgbaston Test, Team India established their dominance in both batting and bowling, putting England completely on the back foot. While Shubman Gill etched his name in the record books with his outstanding batting, the pace deliveries from Mohammad Siraj and Akashdeep troubled the English batsmen. India declared their second innings at 427/6, setting a massive target of 608 runs for England. In response, England ended the day's play at 72 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Indian captain Shubman Gill played a sensational innings of 161 runs in the second innings. He hit 13 fours and 8 sixes off 162 balls. Earlier, he had scored 269 runs in the first innings. Gill became the second Indian and the ninth batsman in the world to score a double century and a century in the same Test. Sunil Gavaskar was the first Indian to achieve this feat.
India resumed the day at 64 runs for 1 wicket. Karun Nair (26 runs) once again could not convert a good start into a big innings. KL Rahul scored a brilliant 55 runs, while Rishabh Pant played an aggressive knock of 65 runs off 58 balls.
Finally, Ravindra Jadeja strengthened the team's innings with an unbeaten 69 runs. India declared their innings at 427 runs, giving England a target of 608 runs.England's second innings began very poorly. Mohammad Siraj gave India their first breakthrough by dismissing Jack Crawley (9).Then Akashdeep bowled Ben Duckett (25) with a magnificent inswinging delivery.
