Delhi, 31 July (H.S.): The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an outlay of Rs.6520 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), including an additional Rs.1920 crore for the ongoing Central Sector Scheme during the 15th Finance Commission Cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26). This approval allocates Rs.1000 crore for establishing 50 Multi Product Food Irradiation Units and 100 NABL-accredited Food Testing Labs. Additionally, Rs.920 crore is designated for project sanctions under various PMKSY schemes. Both the Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure (ICCVAI) and the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure (FSQAI) components are demand-driven and will solicit proposals from eligible entities nationwide. The 50 food irradiation units are projected to provide preservation capacity of 20 to 30 Lakh Metric Tonnes per annum, while the new labs will enhance infrastructure to ensure compliance with food safety standards, promoting safe food supply.
