(HS): Police reported on Thursday that a lady died and her husband got minor
injuries after being assaulted by intruders on the Bareilly-Wazirganj Highway.
The incident occurred when assailants stopped a couple's bike on their way back
from a pilgrimage and demanded valuables, according to police. Amarvati was
assaulted with a sharp knife after refusing to partway her jewelry to their demands.
They also said that her husband, Om Sharan, was attacked and threatened.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said Dial 112 got a call
regarding the incident during wee hours on Thursday. Om Sharan informed us that
at midnight, while riding home with his wife on a bike, three to four unknown
offenders accosted them and stole his wife's jewelry and mangalsutra. The
attack claimed his wife's life. An FIR has been issued. Arya stated that the
motivation appeared to be murder, and that the jewellery worn by the dead and
Om Sharan, the complainant's motorbike, and the mobile phone in the bag was all
retrieved from the crime scene, implying that robbery was not the main purpose.
Two police squads have been constituted to carry out arrests. Further investigations are now underway.
