Delhi, 30 July (H.S.): The Government has undertaken significant measures to counter fake and misleading information, particularly during Operation Sindoor, where extensive misinformation campaigns were identified, largely originating from outside India. Numerous steps were implemented to address these challenges:

Providing Authentic Information

The Government of India organized regular media briefings to keep citizens informed on defense operations, sharing relevant audio-visuals and satellite imagery.

Inter-Ministerial Coordination

A centralized Control Room facilitated real-time inter-departmental coordination, operational 24/7, including representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and media units. This body actively identified social media spreading misinformation.

Fact-Checking Initiatives

The Fact Check Unit actively debunked Pakistani propaganda and verified misinformation related to Operation Sindoor, sharing verified links with appropriate authorities for further action. Media response to these efforts was positive.

Blocking Harmful Content

The Government utilized Section 69A of the Information Technology Act to block over 1,400 URLs containing inflammatory content, primarily sourced from Pakistan.

Media Advisors

On April 26, 2025, an advisory was issued to media channels, urging them to avoid live coverage of defense operations for national security reasons.

These actions reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding the integrity and sovereignty of India while combating misinformation.
