New Delhi, July 30(HS): The Delhi High Court has inquired if the central government can amend the film Udaipur Files, questioning its authority under Section 6 of the Cinematographic Act. Chief Justice DK Upadhyay noted the government's power in reconsideration petitions but emphasized it cannot act beyond the law. The next hearing is scheduled for August 1.
ASG Chetan Sharma informed the court that a Supreme Court challenge exists regarding a prior High Court order from July 10, which the High Court stated did not necessitate further action from the Centre.
Additionally, Menaka Guruswamy, representing accused Mohammad Javed in the Kanhalal murder case, argued against the film's release, asserting it could jeopardize a fair trial, as witness statements remain unrecorded. She warned that the film's release could influence judges, courts, and witnesses across 1800 theaters.
