Delhi, 3 July (H.S.): PM Modi expressed deep honor in addressing the esteemed House in Ghana on Thursday, highlighting the nation’s democratic spirit, resilience, and warmth. He conveyed the goodwill of 1.4 billion Indians and characterized Ghana as a metaphorical beacon of courage and inclusive progress for Africa. PM Modi reflected on his moving experience of receiving an award from President Mahama, extending gratitude to the Ghanaian people on behalf of Indians.

PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, expressing admiration for his vision of a democratic Republic anchored in strong institutions and the development of true democracy that fosters dialogue and unity. He articulated that democracy is ingrained in Indian values, citing centuries of examples from India's history and emphasizing that openness to ideas is vital for democracy. He noted India's diversity, encompassing over two thousand five hundred political parties, twenty different governing parties at the state level, and numerous languages and dialects—highlighting the welcoming spirit of India and its people.

PM Modi acknowledged the historical scars of colonialism shared between India and Ghana but noted the resilience and richness of both nations' heritage. He celebrated the unbound friendship between India and Ghana, likening it to the sweetness of Ghana's famed ‘Sugarloaf’ pineapple, and expressed a commitment to elevating bilateral ties into a comprehensive partnership.

He addressed the evolving global order post-World War II, pointing to technological advancements and challenges like climate change, terrorism, and cybersecurity. Modi emphasized the necessity for reforms in global governance, stressed the importance of amplifying voices from the Global South, and shared India's vision during its G20 Presidency — One Earth, One Family, One Future. He highlighted the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20, underscoring Africa’s critical role on the global stage.

PM Modi conveyed India's philosophy of Humanity First, rooted in verses promoting happiness and wellness for all. He highlighted India’s commitment during the COVID pandemic, sharing resources with over 150 nations, including Ghana, and launching sustainability initiatives such as Mission LiFE and several global alliances focused on health, renewable energy, and wildlife protection.

He praised Ghana's role as a founding member of the International Solar Alliance, set to host a regional meeting, and recognized the foundational transformations evident in India over the last decade. Re-elected for a third consecutive term, India has become the fastest growing emerging economy and is slated to become the third largest economy globally, significantly contributing to global growth.

PM Modi celebrated India's advancement in technology and innovation while mentioning the pivotal role of India in space exploration, connecting the moments of achievement to Africa. He linked India's aspirations for becoming a developed nation by 2047 with supporting Ghana's progress, reinforcing the shared vision for stability and prosperity.

He characterized present global unrest as a concern requiring strong democratic values to lead hope and global stability. Modifying the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayasa (Together for everyone’s growth with mutual trust and effort), he reaffirmed India's commitment to aiding Africa's development under Agenda 2063.

Highlighting a demand-driven approach to partnerships focused on creating sustainable ecosystems, Modi committed to further promoting India-Africa ties, referencing past summits and the expansion of India’s diplomatic footprint across 46 African nations. He reaffirmed India’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and investing in local capacities through over 200 ongoing projects across the continent, each contributing to infrastructure and industrial growth. The annual India-Africa Business conclave also aims to foster opportunities for collaboration.

Through his address, PM Modi not only extolled the virtues of democracy and partnership but also crafted a narrative of mutual aspirations and collaborative growth between India and Ghana, aimed at seizing opportunities for sustainable development and stability in a changing global landscape.

PM Modi's visit to Ghana marks the first prime ministerial delegation from India in 30 years. Following Ghana, he will visit Trinidad and Tobago on July 3-4, Argentina on July 4-5, Brazil for the 17th BRICS summit, and finally Namibia.
