Guwahati, 3 July (HS): Guwahati Police has issued a new summons to TV anchor and deceased Raja Raghuvanshi's sister Shrasti Raghuvanshi, intensifying the investigation into the objectionable remarks about Kamakhya temple. Despite the earlier notice issued, both the accused did not appear for interrogation.
The case has been registered in the Crime Branch under case number 04/2025, in which action is being taken under section 196 (2) / 299/302 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023. It is alleged that misleading and derogatory statements were made against the Goddess Kamakhya temple during a TV interview.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, the investigating officer had sent a notice under section 35 (3) of BNSS on June 13, asking to appear at the Crime Branch police station on June 23 and 24. But till now the accused have not appeared.
Jain said, Summons were sent to the news channel anchor and Indore resident Shrishti Raghuvanshi named in the FIR, but both have not yet appeared before the investigating officer.
The controversy started when the anchor allegedly made unverified and highly objectionable statements about the Maa Kamakhya temple in an interview. Shrishti Raghuvanshi, who is said to be the sister of the late Raja Raghuvanshi, had supported these statements of the anchor in the interview.
According to the police, these comments have hurt religious sentiments and there is a possibility of deteriorating peace and communal harmony in the society.
The police officer said, The statements are against the Maa Kamakhya temple, a symbol of faith of the Hindu community, which has hurt the religious sentiments of the people.
After ignoring the first summons, the police is now considering more strict options legally. At present, the investigation of the case is going on.
