Pratapgarh,
29 July (HS): Two armed men on motorcycles reportedly stole a jeweler of Rs 15
lakh in gold and silver goods in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh, police said on
Tuesday. The event happened on Monday night at Avsanganj market, roughly 60 km from
the district headquarters. Ramesh, who is originally from Bihar and now lives
in Avsaganj, was heading home from his jewellery business, barely 100 metres
away, with a bag full of ornaments when he was reportedly accosted by two
motorcycle-borne assailants, according to Additional Superintendent of Police
Sanjay Rai.
They
allegedly stole his backpack while brandishing a country-made firearm. When he resisted, they assaulted him and fled
the scene, according to the officer. Ramesh said that the bag had around 7
kilogram of silver and 70 grams of gold trinkets. Following the event, police
arrived and set up checkpoints in the area, but the perpetrators managed to
flee. A case has been filed against
anonymous individuals, and additional investigation is ongoing.
