29 July (HS): An idol of a deity installed at a temple here was found
vandalised by unidentified persons, police said on Tuesday, Additional
Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said the idol was damaged by unknown
anti-social elements during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at the
temple located in Ambedkar Nagar locality. A case has been registered at the
Robertsganj police station, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the
accused, he said. He said there was no disturbance to peace or law and order in
the area following the incident.
During
the wee hours, miscreants tried to spoil the atmosphere by vandalising the
Shiv-Hanuman temple located at Ambedkar Nagar crossing under the police station
Robertsganj of Sonbhadra district. The incident came to light on Tuesday
morning when devotees reached the temple. People told that when they reached
for darshan in the morning, they saw that the statue of Hanuman ji was lying in
a broken state. Devotees became angry over the incident. A theft was also
committed in a grocery-vegetable shop adjacent to the temple. Local people have
expressed their anger over the vandalism and theft in the temple and have
demanded immediate action. Kotwal Gopalji Gupta says that the matter is being
investigated. Strict action will be taken against the culprits.
