Meerut,

29 July (HS): Two known criminals were

apprehended during a police confrontation in the Nauchandi police station area

of Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, with one of them injured by a gunshot, a

senior police officer said on Tuesday. According to Abhishek Tiwari, Circle Officer

of Civil Lines, on Monday night, while checking suspicious cars near Nauchandi

Ground, the police saw two youngsters on a motorbike with no number plate. The police attempted to stop them, but the

accused reportedly opened fire with the intent to kill. In

self-defense, the police shot one of the culprits, Wasim, a resident of

Lakkhipura under the Lisari Gate police station, in the leg.

His

companion, Sartaj, a resident of Pudine Wala Khet, which is also under Lisari

Gate jurisdiction, was caught on the scene, the officer added. Tiwari stated

that Wasim and Sartaj face multiple severe criminal charges, including theft,

burglary, and possession of illegal firearms. A complaint has been filed

against them at Nauchandi police station under the appropriate sections of the

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The cops seized a stolen mobile phone, an illegal

country-made firearm, ammo, and a motorbike. The incident is being investigated
