29 July (HS): Two known criminals were
apprehended during a police confrontation in the Nauchandi police station area
of Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, with one of them injured by a gunshot, a
senior police officer said on Tuesday. According to Abhishek Tiwari, Circle Officer
of Civil Lines, on Monday night, while checking suspicious cars near Nauchandi
Ground, the police saw two youngsters on a motorbike with no number plate. The police attempted to stop them, but the
accused reportedly opened fire with the intent to kill. In
self-defense, the police shot one of the culprits, Wasim, a resident of
Lakkhipura under the Lisari Gate police station, in the leg.
His
companion, Sartaj, a resident of Pudine Wala Khet, which is also under Lisari
Gate jurisdiction, was caught on the scene, the officer added. Tiwari stated
that Wasim and Sartaj face multiple severe criminal charges, including theft,
burglary, and possession of illegal firearms. A complaint has been filed
against them at Nauchandi police station under the appropriate sections of the
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The cops seized a stolen mobile phone, an illegal
country-made firearm, ammo, and a motorbike. The incident is being investigated
further.
