Bahraich,
29 July (HS): A 14-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard while on her
way to the fields in the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, authorities said
Tuesday. The event occurred on Monday evening in the Semrahna hamlet of Gaura
Pipra village, which is part of the Katarniaghat Wildlife Division's Kakraha
Range. The girl, Sanjana (14), was walking towards agricultural fields at
nightfall when she was attacked by a leopard lurking in adjacent bushes,
snatching her by the neck and inflicting serious injuries, according to
residents.
Hearing
her screams, locals rushed to the scene and used commotion to scare the animal
away. However, by that point, the girl
had incurred life-threatening injuries. She
was initially transported to the Motipur community health center, but when her
condition worsened, she was transferred to the district medical college in
Bahraich, where physicians declared her dead, according to authorities. The
family has received immediate financial help of Rs 5,000, and after completing
all legal requirements, the family will get Rs 5 lakh in compensation in
accordance with government regulations, according to forest officials. The
corpse has been submitted for a postmortem.
