Prayagraj,
29 July (HS): On Tuesday, thousands of
devotees flocked to old temples throughout the state to worship on the occasion
of Nag Panchami, a festival celebrated with profound devotion during the holy
month of Sawan. Devotees gathered to Prayagraj's famous Shri
Nagvasuki Temple in the early morning to perform rituals and donate milk and
flowers to the snake god. The temple,
located on the Ganga's banks, is one of the most significant Nag Panchami
festival sites in northern India.
On
the occasion of Nag Panchami festival of Shravan month, which is the favourite
month of Devadhidev Mahadev, there is a huge crowd in all the Shiva temples
including Nagvasuki temple since morning. Devotees are waiting for their turn
outside the temples to worship Vasuki, the king of snakes.
On
the occasion of Nag Panchami, devotees are thronging the Nagvasuki temple, Mankameshwar
temple, Brahmaeshwar Mahadev temple, Koteshwar Mahadev temple located in
Shivkuti, Pandeshvar Mahadev temple, Takshak temple and other Shiva temples to
offer prayers to Vasuki, the favourite of Baba Bholenath.
It
is believed that many people have arrived in temples since morning to perform
special prayers to get freedom from Kaal Sarp. Mahamandaleshwar Balbir Giri of
Niranjani Akhara told that it is mentioned in the Puranas that after the
Samudra Manthan, on the orders of Lord Vishnu, the king of snakes Vasuki rested
at a high place in Daraganj, Prayagraj. Due to which the temple present at this
place is called Nagvasuki Temple. By worshipping in this temple in the month of
Shravan, the Sarpakaal Dosh ends. There is a huge crowd in this temple on the
occasion of Nag Panchami. Similarly, in Ayodhya, a large number of devotees
sought blessings at the Pracheen Sheshavtar Shri Laxman Temple.
