Delhi, 3 June (H.S.): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has filed a plea in the Jharkhand High Court, contesting a non-bailable warrant issued by the MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa for remarks made against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This represents the second non-bailable warrant from the Chaibasa court, which mandates Gandhi's appearance by June 26.
The first warrant was issued on February 27 due to Gandhi's absence from the trial, leading him to challenge it in the Jharkhand High Court, which temporarily stayed the order. A resident of Chaibasa, Pratap Katiyar, alleged Gandhi made derogatory statements about Shah during a 2018 Congress convention, implying Shah's involvement in murder. Although granted interim protection in May 2022, the High Court had previously rejected his petition to quash the defamation case, asserting that Gandhi's comments were prima facie defamatory under IPC Section 499.
