Guwahati, 26 June (HS): In a historic achievement towards robust and efficient rail operations, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) started operating 12423/12424 (Dibrugarh-New Delhi-Dibrugarh) Rajdhani Express on end-to-end electric traction. With this, one of the major trains of the region, now runs fully on electric traction, which is a major step in Indian Railways' mission of complete electrification and reduction of carbon footprint.

NFR CPRO Kapanjal Kishore Sharma said on Thursday that the end-to-end electric operation of Rajdhani Express reflects NFR's firm commitment to modernization of railway infrastructure in the Northeast. Fully electrified travel has become possible after electrification work on the remaining sections under NFR, particularly on the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia-Lumding-Guwahati route was completed recently. Uninterrupted power operation significantly increases efficiency, reduces travel time, reduces operating costs and contributes to environmental sustainability.

New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express started operating on electric traction from June 25, marking a significant milestone in railway electrification. In return, Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express will run on electric traction from June 27. A step towards sustainable transportation, several other major trains connecting eastern and northeastern India are also running on electric traction. Train No. 13181 (Kolkata- Silghat Town) Express is ready to run on electric traction from June 30, while Train No. 13182 (Silghat Town- Kolkata) Express will start operating from July 1.

Train No. 12345 (Howrah- Guwahati) Saraighat Express has been running on electric traction since June 25 and Train No. 12346 (Guwahati- Howrah) Saraighat Express since June 26. Additionally, Train No. 13248 (Rajendra Nagar- Kamakhya) Capital Express started operating on electric traction on June 25 and Train No. 13247 (Kamakhya- Rajendra Nagar) Capital Express is scheduled to run on electric traction from June 27.

With full electrification, Rajdhani Express is now truly a symbol of progress and sustainability. It is not just a technological upgrade but a leap towards a greener and faster rail network for the people of Northeast India. With Indian Railways steadily moving towards its goal of 100% electrification across the country, Northeast India has now firmly emerged on the map of high-speed and eco-friendly rail operations.
