Singapore, June 2(HS): Thailand showcased an impressive performance at the Singapore Badminton Open on Sunday, securing two gold medals. In men's singles, Kunlavut Vitidsarn achieved a strong victory, while the pair of Dechapol Puvaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran won the title in the mixed doubles category.In the men's singles final, Kunlavut stunned by defeating China's Lu Guangzu in just 37 minutes with a score of 21-6, 21-10. This is his fourth title of the season. With this victory, he will become the world number 1 in the upcoming Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, making him the first male player born after the year 2000 to achieve this feat.
Earlier, Thailand's mixed doubles pair Dechapol and Supissara won the title by defeating Hong Kong's Tang Chun-Man and Tse Ying Suet in straight sets, 2-0. They displayed excellent teamwork throughout the tournament and maintained their dominance in the final as well.In women's singles, China's Chen Yufei claimed the title by defeating her compatriot Wang Ziyi in straight sets. This is her fourth title of the season.In women's doubles, South Korea's pair of Kim Hye-Jeong and Kong Hee-Yong triumphed over Japan's Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi with a score of 21-16, 21-14.In men's doubles, Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik defeated the Korean duo of Kim Won-Ho and Seo Seung-Jae in a close match, with a score of 15-21, 21-18, 21-19.
