Bhubaneswar, 2 June (H.S.): In a brazen act of violence, an Additional Tehsildar was assaulted and his official vehicle torched by unidentified miscreants allegedly linked to the sand mafia in the Kaptipada block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday.

The official, Bhimkant Majhi, was en route to conduct a raid on illegal sand mining operations at several sand ghats when the incident occurred. According to sources, he was waylaid and physically attacked by a group of assailants who also hurled stones and bricks at his vehicle, leaving it extensively damaged.

Majhi sustained multiple injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed for medical treatment. The violent episode took place alarmingly close to the Kaptipada police station, raising serious questions about the safety and security of government officials tasked with curbing illegal activities.
