New Delhi, June 2(HS): Joe Root's unbeaten 166 runs propelled England to a thrilling three-wicket victory over West Indies in the second ODI in Cardiff, clinching a 2-0 series lead. Root's remarkable innings marked his 18th ODI century and pushed his career total past 7,000 runs. England, chasing 309, had a rocky start, losing openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett for a mere 2 runs. However, Root steadied the ship with Harry Brook (47), followed by a significant 143-run partnership with Will Jacks (49). They led England to victory with seven balls to spare after the team was reduced to 225 for 6.
West Indies batted first, struggling early as opener Jewel Andrew fell for a duck. Brandon King (59) and Kisi Karty (103) revived the innings with a 141-run partnership. Karty's century was his fourth in ODIs, although he received two lucky breaks during his innings. England's Adil Rashid excelled with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 63 runs, becoming the nation's most successful spinner as West Indies were all out for 308 runs in 47.4 overs. Root's performance also made him England's all-time leading ODI run-scorer, surpassing Eoin Morgan. The final match is set for Tuesday at The Oval.
