Delhi/Nicosia, 15 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Cyprus for a two-day visit, marking the first visit of an Indian prime minister to the country in over two decades. He was received at the airport by President Nikos Christodoulides.
During his stay, PM Modi aims to strengthen bilateral ties through discussions focused on trade, investment, security, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. In a pre-departure statement, he emphasized Cyprus as a close friend and an important Mediterranean and EU partner. In Nicosia, he will engage in talks with President Christodoulides and address business leaders in Limassol.
Following Cyprus, he will participate in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Carney, and will subsequently visit Croatia to meet with President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Modi's tour is also intended to express gratitude for international support against cross-border terrorism and to promote global cooperation in combating terrorism.
