Helicopter crash near Kedarnath kills seven people

Delhi, 15 June (H.S.): Aryan Aviation's Bell 407 helicopter (Reg. VT-BKA) crashed today while operating the sector Shri Kedarnath Ji – Aryan Helipad, Guptkashi, carrying five passengers, one infant, and one crew member. The helicopter took off from Guptkashi at 05:10 hrs, landed at Shri Kedarnath Ji at 05:18 hrs, and departed again for Guptkashi at 05:19 hrs before crashing near Gaurikund between 05:30 and 05:45 hrs. Preliminary findings indicate Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) due to poor visibility and heavy cloud cover. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a detailed investigation. Rescue operations are ongoing by NDRF and SDRF teams.

In response to the incident, a high-level meeting led by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami convened at 11:00 hrs. Immediate actions include the suspension of Aryan Aviation's operations for the Char Dham Yatra. Two helicopters from M/s TransBharat Aviation were also in flight under similar conditions, leading to a six-month suspension of both pilots' licenses. Charter and shuttle helicopter operations are suspended on June 15th and 16th, 2025, for safety. UCADA has been directed to review all operators and pilots for safety compliance before resuming services. A Command-and-Control Room will be established for real-time monitoring. The Ministry of Civil Aviation emphasized the importance of aviation safety and adherence to protocols.
