Jalpaiguri, 13 June (H.S.): There was a lot of ruckus on Thursday night over the death of a newborn in Rajganj Rural Hospital of Jalpaiguri. The family of the newborn lodged a complaint with the police alleging negligence in treatment. The family alleged that on Thursday afternoon, the newborn was discharged from the hospital in critical condition saying that the baby will have to be treated at Jalpaiguri Medical Super Specialty Hospital. When the baby was taken to Jalpaiguri Medical Super Specialty Hospital, the doctor on duty declared the infant dead. After returning with the body of the baby, the relatives of the deceased protested at Rajganj Rural Hospital. Police also had to reach the spot to control the situation.

The relatives of the deceased claimed the baby, weighing 2.5 Kg, was born on June 10. Doctors said that the mother and child were healthy. But later, the child was not able to drink the mother's milk and was having trouble in breathing, but the doctors did not pay attention due to which the child died.

Till the time of filing of the news, the hospital authorities did not bother to comment on the issue.
