Kolkata, 14 June (H.S.) -
The southwest monsoon is expected to make further inroads into West Bengal next week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin released on Friday. Owing to a significant moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal and favorable atmospheric conditions, several districts in the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall through June 18.
In North Bengal, districts like Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 14. The IMD has also issued warnings for sustained heavy rainfall in other parts of North Bengal through June 18.
Meanwhile, in South Bengal, districts including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, Purulia, Birbhum, and West Burdwan are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain between June 14 and 18.
According to the IMD, these weather developments are being driven by increased moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal, which is supporting the monsoon’s progress. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify further across the state in the coming days.
