Chennai, 13 June (H.S.): The Chennai Airport Customs department has made a significant seizure of 10 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic ganja, valued at Rs 10 crore. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt. According to officials, the contraband was being smuggled from Thailand to Bangalore via Chennai.
The customs officials received intelligence about the smuggling operation and intensified surveillance at the airport. Acting on the tip-off, they intercepted a passenger arriving from Sri Lanka, who had traveled from Thailand. Upon searching his belongings, they found 2.8 kilograms of hydroponic ganja hidden in food packets. Further investigation led to the seizure of an additional 7.2 kilograms of the contraband, concealed in gift packets on a cargo flight.
The arrested individuals are believed to be part of a larger drug trafficking network operating from Thailand. The customs department has been cracking down on such smuggling attempts, having seized 6 kilograms of hydroponic ganja worth Rs 6 crore in a similar operation in May. The authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the entire smuggling network and its kingpins.
