Ballia, 10 June (HS): A BJP
politician close to former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar's son Neeraj Shekhar
has been charged for allegedly threatening a Dalit research scholar from
Lucknow University, police said on Tuesday. According to authorities, the FIR
was filed late Monday night at Ubhaon Police Station following a complaint from
Deepak Kannaujia, a Turtipar village resident. Kannaujia, a scholar at Lucknow
University, stated in his complaint that BJP leader Alok Singh contacted him on
May 21 and harassed him before threatening to murder him. “You are welcome to
record this chat,” the complainant quoted Alok Singh’s threat. According to the allegation, Alok Singh
stated, I am not afraid of the administration or law and order in Uttar
Pradesh.
The BJP's area president, Arun Kant
Tiwari, stated that Alok Singh is a BJP member and a close cousin of Neeraj
Shekhar. Kannaujia said that Alok Singh had a longtime political feud with his
family. He said his father died of a heart attack last year as a result of the
stress brought on the frequent harassment.
He stated he was worried Alok Singh would kill his mother, who lives
alone in the countryside. Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh stated on
Tuesday that an audio tape of the incident had lately gone popular on social
media.
Rasra Circle Officer Alok Gupta
conducted a preliminary investigation, and Alok Singh was charged under
sections 352 (intentional insult) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the
BNS, as well as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act.
