Chandigarh, May 31(HS): In the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titans by 20 runs. With this victory, the team led by Hardik Pandya has reached Qualifier 2. They will now face Punjab Kings on June 1 in Ahmedabad. In the Eliminator match played on Friday in New Chandigarh, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 228 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. In response, Gujarat only managed to score 208 runs, losing six wickets, thus losing the match by 20 runs.
Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer for Gujarat with 80 runs. Gujarat's innings started with a setback, as captain Shubman Gill scored only one run before being dismissed by Trent Boult. Kusal Mendis then arrived at the crease but returned to the pavilion after being hit-wicket. He contributed 20 runs in a partnership of 64 runs with Sai Sudharsan off 34 balls. Sudharsan then partnered with Washington Sundar, with the two adding 84 runs in 44 balls.
Sundar scored 48 runs while Sudharsan made 80 runs.
Meanwhile, Rutherford scored 24 runs and Shahrukh Khan made 13 runs. Rahul Tewatia scored 16 runs, and Rashid Khan remained unbeaten without opening his account. For Mumbai Indians, Trent Boult took two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Richard Gleeson, Mitchell Santner, and Ashwini Kumar took one wicket each.Before this, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow gave Mumbai a strong start. They shared a partnership of 84 runs for the first wicket. Sai Kishore dismissed Bairstow, who was making his debut in this match, through a catch by Gerald Coetzee.
Bairstow scored 47 runs off 22 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. After that, Rohit was joined by Suryakumar Yadav, and together they added 59 runs in 34 balls. During this, Suryakumar faced 20 balls and scored 33 runs before being dismissed.In this match, Rohit Sharma completed his half-century in 28 balls. He also hit his 300th six in the IPL, becoming the first active player to reach this milestone. He now has 302* sixes to his name. The record for the most sixes in the IPL belongs to Chris Gayle.
The Hitman, alongside Tilak Varma, added 43 runs for the third wicket in 22 balls. The former captain scored 81 runs off 50 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Tilak scored 25 runs off 11 balls and Naman Dheer was out for nine runs. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten at 22 runs off nine balls, hitting three sixes, while Santner did not score any runs.For Gujarat, Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore took two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj managed one success.
