Washington, May 30 (H.S.): A federal appeals court in Washington D.C. has stayed a three-judge panel's decision that blocked excessive tariffs imposed by Trump’s administration, providing temporary relief. The panel ruled that Trump exceeded his authority under federal law with these tariffs. The appeals court reinstated the tariffs for now, citing the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, despite the judges rejecting this justification.
The Justice Department had sought this temporary stay following the panel's ruling. The Trump administration argues that the tariffs address a national emergency due to trade deficits harming Americans, a point defended by White House spokesperson Kush Desai. Desai contends that judges should not define a national emergency. Trump is committed to prioritizing America, with tariffs playing a significant role in his agenda for a second term.
