Dhaka, May 29 (HS): Employees at the secretariat located in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, did not work from 10 to 11 AM today, disregarding the interim government's claims of reconciliation. These employees are protesting against the recently announced Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025. Last week, the situation was explosive due to clashes between the secretariat staff and the interim government, which forced the interim government to deploy paramilitary forces in the secretariat.
According to a Reports employees from various ministries at the secretariat did not work for an hour in opposition to the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025. During this period, a protest was held under the call of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officer and Employee Unity Platform. The platform has announced that work will be halted for one hour every day until the ordinance is revoked.
Nazrul Islam, a leader of the Secretariat Officer and Employee Unity Platform, stated that all employees believe in peaceful protest. Therefore, they have suspended work for one hour today while demanding the repeal of the controversial ordinance. This trend will continue.
The government issued and implemented the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025 on Sunday evening. The draft was approved by the interim government's advisory council on May 22. Secretariat employees have been protesting for the repeal of the ordinance since last Saturday. The platform has stated that if their demands are not met, a new round of protest programs will be announced starting May 31.
