New Delhi, May 27 (HS): India has won its first medal at the Asian Athletics Championship 2025. In the men's 20 km race walk competition, Servin Sebastian delivered an impressive performance, clinching the bronze medal. He achieved a personal best time of 1:21:13.60, marking his first Asian medal in his career.
Servin Sebastian has become the eighth Indian to win a medal in the men's 20 km race walk event at the Asian Athletics Championship. This is the biggest achievement of his career so far. With this performance, he has showcased his talent on the international stage.
In the women's javelin throw event, India's seasoned athlete Annu Rani missed out on a medal. She threw the javelin 58.40 meters on her third attempt, which was not enough to place her higher than fourth.
In the women's 400 meters race, India’s Roopal Chaudhary and Vidya Ramraj secured first and second positions in their respective heats, advancing to the finals. Both are expected to deliver strong performances in the finals as well.
In the men's 1500 meters heat, Younus Shah secured second place, earning his spot in the finals. Meanwhile, in the 400 meters race, Vishal T.K. achieved a personal best time of 46.05 seconds, qualifying for the finals. However, Jai Kumar narrowly missed the qualifying mark.
The Indian team’s hopes have increased at the Asian Championship, and there is a possibility of more medals in the upcoming events.
