Dhaka, May 27 (HS): Protests in Bangladesh against the interim government's Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025 have intensified, with government employees threatening a nationwide movement if the ordinance is not revoked. In response, the government has restricted access to the Secretariat in Dhaka, implementing heightened security measures involving various forces, including the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and SWAT teams.
Security personnel have been deployed since early morning to monitor entrances, with armed SWAT vehicles stationed nearby. Despite a ban on gatherings from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the Anti-Discrimination Employees Unity Platform has continued protests for the second day, demanding the removal of key officials. The ordinance imposes penalties on government employees for disobedience or absenteeism. Employee leader Noorul Islam has asserted that their fight against this black law will persist until their demands are met.
