New Delhi, February 25 (HS): Country's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Tuesday said it has started commercial production at its Kharkhoda plant in Haryana. The company's Kharkhoda plant will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units. The compact SUV Brezza will be produced here.
The company said in a statement that commercial production has started at the Kharkhoda plant in Haryana. The foundation stone of this plant was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through online medium in August 2022. MSIL said that initially the annual production capacity of the Kharkhoda plant will be 2.5 lakh units. This is the company's third plant in Haryana.
Maruti Suzuki said that the compact SUV Brezza will be produced at the Kharkhoda plant. With this, the total annual production capacity of Maruti Suzuki will be 26 lakh units annually. This figure also includes the production capacity of Suzuki Motor Gujarat (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company).
Apart from the Kharkhoda plant, MSIL has three more plants in India, including two in Haryana (Gurugram and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). Maruti is increasing its production capacity as it plans to achieve a production capacity of 40 lakh units in FY 2030-31.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is the publicly listed Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation. It is the country's leading car manufacturer, specializing in small cars. The company was established by the Government of India in February 1981 as Maruti Udyog Limited as a joint venture with Suzuki, becoming the first Japanese automaker as well as the first major foreign automaker to invest in India.
