Shimla, 23 February (HS): Himachal Pradesh has once again been hit by earthquake tremors. Light tremors of earthquake were felt in Mandi district on Sunday morning, which created an atmosphere of fear among the people for some time. According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the intensity of the earthquake was measured 3.7 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was located in Mandi district at 31.48 degrees north latitude and 76.95 degrees east longitude.
The earthquake tremors came at 8:42 am and were felt for a few seconds. Its epicenter was 7 kilometers below the ground surface in Mandi. However, due to its low intensity, there is no report of loss of life and property. Tremors were also felt in the areas adjacent to Mandi district, but no damage has been reported anywhere.
Light tremors of earthquake are being felt continuously in the hilly districts of Himachal. Earlier this month, on February 2, an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 hit Kullu district adjacent to Mandi. Apart from this, mild earthquakes have also occurred several times in Shimla, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts. However, there has been no loss of life in these incidents.
According to experts, Himachal Pradesh falls in a seismically sensitive area and it comes under Zone 4 and 5. This is the reason why earthquake tremors are felt here from time to time.
There is always a danger of earthquake in Himachal Pradesh. In the year 1905, the devastating earthquake in Kangra and Chamba districts caused heavy destruction, in which more than 10 thousand people died. Since then, many small and big earthquakes have occurred here, but no major damage has been caused.
