New Delhi, 22 February (HS): Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the three-day Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR) on Saturday.

On this occasion, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said ,Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, farmers are the soul of farming. We are continuously working in the agriculture sector to fulfil the resolution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congratulating ICAR, he said that the varieties shown today are a big achievement in themselves. Scientists are working hard day and night. He said that we have a 6-point strategy. This includes increasing production, preparing good seeds, and delivering seeds to farmers.

On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ram Nath Thakur, Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director of IARI Dr. CH Srinivas Rao, Deputy Director General Dr. DK Yadav, other officers and employees and a large number of farmers, agricultural scientists, agricultural entrepreneurs, representatives of startups, food processors etc. were present.

The Union Agriculture Minister said that on February 24, the Prime Minister will transfer money to the accounts of farmers under the Kisan Samman Nidhi in Bhagalpur.

On Sunday, he will go among the Makhana producers in Bihar, to know and understand their problems.

Shivraj Chauhan said, we also have to arrange for the cost of the farmers. The limit of Kisan Credit Card has been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This will benefit the fruit and vegetable farmers.

He said , the third task is to give the right price for the production. For this, MSP has been continuously increased. The government will buy the farmer's wheat and rice, masoor, urad, tur puri will also be bought. The production of these things will increase when they get good prices. Where the farmer sells, it sells cheap and if it comes to Delhi or Mumbai, it becomes expensive. Right now the price of tomatoes has gone down. We have made a plan that the central government will pay the transportation cost through NAFED, so that the farmer gets a fair price.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh honored farmers with Innovative Farmer and Student Farmer awards, who have done exemplary work by adopting new techniques in their farming.

During the fair, farmers are being motivated to adopt innovations and scientific techniques. Important information like advanced seeds, organic fertilizers, climate-friendly technology, drone spray technology, smart irrigation technology and market linkage has been made available to farmers through more than three hundred stalls in the fair. This event has given farmers an opportunity to adopt new technologies, communicate directly with scientists and get the necessary information to make their farming profitable.
