New Delhi, 22 February (HS): Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist Gulveer Singh has achieved another historic feat. He set a new national record in the men's 5000 meter indoor race at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge held in Boston and secured fourth place.

26-year-old Indian Army runner Gulveer clocked 12:59.77 minutes and finished fourth in this competition. In the competition, America's Cole Hawker (12:57.82), Cooper Teare (12:57.97) and Australia's Jack Renner (12:59.43) secured the top three positions respectively.

This brilliant performance of Gulveer not only broke the national record, but it also became a new Asian record in 5000 meter indoor short track.

Earlier, Gulveer Singh had broken the 16-year-old national record in the men's 3000 meter indoor race last week. He finished second with a timing of 7:38.26 minutes, surpassing the old record of 7:49.47 minutes set by Surendra Singh in 2008.

These achievements of Gulveer Singh have infused new energy in Indian athletics and he is moving towards setting more new records in the future.
