Lucknow,
21 Feb (HS): In a scathing reaction to Rahul Gandhi's criticism, Bahujan Samaj
Party (BSP) chief Mayawati accused the Congress of serving as the Bharatiya
Janata Party's 'B team' in the Delhi assembly elections. This debate came after Gandhi expressed his
unhappiness with the BSP's decision not to join the opposition Indian National
Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in the Lok Sabha elections.
Mayawati
recommended Congress to reflect on its own political strategy before
criticizing others, while emphasizing the problems that the new BJP
administration faces in implementing its campaign pledges. Meanwhile, BSP supporters in Raebareli, Uttar
Pradesh, have displayed posters strongly denouncing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi
for his remarks regarding BSP Chief Mayawati.
Posters accuse Gandhi of double standards, claiming that he touts
himself as a Dalit advocate while undermining Mayawati's leadership.
This
protest followed Rahul Gandhi's comments during a visit to Raebareli, in which
he stated that if Mayawati had partnered with Congress in the previous
parliamentary elections, they would have won.
Gandhi questioned Mayawati's electoral strategy, wondering why she does
not contest elections effectively. In response, Mayawati accused Congress
supporters of inciting hostility and adopting a casteist attitude against the
BSP in Congress-ruled states, while suggesting coalitions when politically
advantageous elsewhere. She cited
previous defeats sustained by the BSP in partnerships with Congress as a result
of unfair vote distribution.
