Kamrup/Sivasagar (Assam), 20 February (HS): A woman has severely burnt while two shops were burnt to ashes in two separate incidents of arson in Kamrup (rural) and Sivasagar districts.

According to information received from the police on Thursday, a house caught fire in Rangiya Nagar of Kamrup (rural) district early this morning. In this incident, Moina Nath, who was sleeping inside the house, was severely burnt. All the property of the house was burnt to ashes due to the fire. The cause of the fire is not known. The injured woman has been admitted to the hospital.

On the other hand, two shops caught fire in Athabari of Dimou under Sivasagar district last midnight. Due to this, goods worth lakhs of rupees having in the shops were burnt to ashes. The fire first broke out in the hardware shop of Athabari businessman Biren Shahu. Later, the fire engulfed another mobile shop nearby. As a result, goods worth lakhs of rupees kept in both the shops were burnt. Fire brigade teams from Dimau and Sivasagar reached the spot and controlled the fire. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Police are investigating the matter. There is no report of any casualty in the accident.
