Srinagar, 20 February (H.S.): A portion of the footpath and the sidewall along the picturesque Boulevard Road on the bank of Dal Lake caved in and washed away in Srinagar on Thursday, officials said.
The erosion of the sidewall and footpath took place near the Ghat No 17 along the Dal lake.
However, the traffic on the Boulevard leading to famous Mughal gardens of Nishat and Shalimar was normal.
The authorities have installed iron barricades to prevent any untoward incident.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas experienced light rainfall today.
National Conference leader and Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Tanvir Sadiq visited the site at Boulevard road and urged authorities for immediate action.
Talking to media persons, Sadiq expressed concern over the erosion of the sidewall and footpath at Boulevard road, urging the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate action to prevent further deterioration.
He emphasized the need for a long-term solution to protect the lakefront from erosion and ensure the safety of the public.
Earlier, Sadiq posted on his social media handle X, “A critical issue has emerged near Ghat No. 17, Boulevard road Srinagar, where the path and soil have been washed away. Immediate intervention from the DC Srinagar is needed”.
